2011 Newsletter

Dear Friends,

Well, that was a summer to be proud of for sure! Plenty of sunshine, warm evenings, great fishing, guitar playing by the fire and so much activity. It was fantastic to see old friends and to make so many new ones.

As many of you may know, Alyssa created a summer challenge to gather 9 participants to donate their hair to Locks of Love and raise $1,000 to symbolically make one hairpiece for a child in need. Alyssa made it happen and even exceeded her goal. Congratulations to all the participants and all of you that supported her!!! We had some special guests this summer that we would like to send out best wishes: Lilo and Yelda who got engaged while out on the Lake; Mike and Katherine for joining us before taking off on their honeymoon; Jim and Fay who stayed with us for most of the summer, wishing you all the best in your new home in Port Hope. And, we can’t forget Brenda, who came for a weekend and stayed the entire summer as well as meeting her new love. Best of luck Brenda and Steve! We are looking forward to watching your relationship flourish.

CHANGES/RENOVATIONS
Since taking over the resort in June 2010, we have been busy upgrading our facilities and your support has been very encouraging. As many of you may have noticed, we have reinforced the covered slips, added queen size mattresses to the larger cottages, new bedding throughout, renovated cottage #9 including a new deck, removed the old fish hut and restored and upgraded the hard top pontoon. But more importantly, is what we have been working on this fall, restoring/reinforcing the structure/foundation of cottage 6/7. We hope to continue with the restoration of the building in the spring of 2012, as much as time and finances permit.

We had some terrible windstorms this year. In particular, one in the beginning of October that caused plenty of damage to our docks and blew the hardtop pontoon to pieces. No worries, Etienne was on top of it and managed to repair all the damages.

Over the winter, we are going to work on renovating cottage #2 to update it and add a shower. In the spring, we plan on fixing the south docks and extending some of those small docks.

FISHING
We had some record breaking fishing this year. In the spring, the boys from Tawas City, Michigan caught over 750 bluegills in just over 4 hours (took them longer to clean the fish then to catch them). Apparently, they are taking me to Vegas. This fall the pickerel/walleye were some hungry, over 40 large pickerel/walleyes were caught in one weekend.
